Summary/Objective

The Water/Sewer Professional Engineer (PE) is responsible for the planning, design, and delivery of municipal water and wastewater infrastructure, including water mains, sanitary sewers, pump stations, drinking water sources, storage facilities, treatment facilities, wastewater reuse systems, and related facilities for public and private clients. This role leads technical design, coordinates with multidisciplinary teams and clients, and ensures projects meet regulatory, budget, and schedule requirements.

Essential Functions

  • Lead the design of water and sewer infrastructure, including gravity pipelines and force mains, pump stations, groundwater and surface water sources, storage facilities, treatment facilities, wastewater reuse systems, and associated site and civil works.

  • Prepare engineering calculations, hydraulic models, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates for water and wastewater projects.

  • Develop facility plans, technical reports, feasibility studies, and design memoranda for municipal water and wastewater systems.

  • Oversee preparation and review of plans for compliance with codes, standards, and sound engineering principles.

  • Support permitting by preparing applications, technical documentation, and responses to regulatory comments.

  • Coordinate with project managers, CAD/BIM technicians, field staff, and subconsultants to deliver high‑quality, constructible design.

  •   Provide technical support during bidding and construction, including RFIs, submittal reviews, site visits, and construction observation.

  • Assist with project scoping, scheduling, budgeting, and tracking of project progress and quality.

  • Build and maintain strong client relationships through responsive communication and participation in meetings and presentations.

  • Mentor junior engineers and designers by providing technical guidance and quality review of their work.

  • Assist where needed in project proposals to provide cost estimates, schedules, and the scope of work.

  • Market as an ambassador for the company, keeping clients informed and building relationships.

  • Ensure design solutions are in compliance with agency standards and company policy/ standards.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has the potential to supervise several EIs in their corresponding department and region.

Work Environment
This job operates in a clerical, office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. This position requires the ability to lift office products occasionally and supplies, up to 20 pounds, and to bend and stand as necessary.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel
Up to 10% travel. Some out-of-the-area travel and overnight stays may be expected.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering

  • 6+ years’ experience in the civil and construction industry

  • PE License in the corresponding state

  • Proficient in using computer-aided design (AutoCAD), Civil 3D software, HEC-RAS, and other relevant engineering tools

Preferred Education & Experience

  • PE license in surrounding states (ID, OR, WA, MT)

  • 8+ years’ experience in the civil engineering field

  • Construction experience

  • Project and employee management experience

  • Strong knowledge of civil engineering principles, practices, and codes

Employee must be authorized to work in the United States and must possess a valid driver’s license.
